EGR Coolers

NRF offers a wide range of EGR coolers. The range consists of three subgroups; modules (EGR valve included), coolers and heat exchanger cores. With this approach NRF has solutions available for the main brands fitted with an EGR cooler.

The current range exists of more than 90 EGR coolers. To cover the demand of the market, NRF is continuously expanding this range.

Competitive range
The total NRF EGR cooling range contains 200 references covering over 1.200 OE references. More than 50% of the range is Easy Fit. NRF supplies EGR valves separately.

The function of an EGR cooler
The principle of EGR is that a controllable proportion of the exhaust gas is recirculated back into the combustion chamber(s). Because the exhaust gas is mixed with the incoming air, the oxygen level (and therefore the lambda value) of the combustion mixture will decrease. This reduces the combustion temperature and thereby NOx emissions (by 30%), because NOx is mainly produced at high combustion temperatures. With the current EURO 6 regulations NOx reduction is becoming more important. For an even more effective reduction of NOx, the recirculated exhaust gas can be passed through an EGR cooler. The EGR cooler operates as a heat exchanger. Through the EGR cooler, coolant is flowing in fixed channels. The coolant absorbs the heat from the exhaust gas. The EGR cooler reduces the exhaust gas temperature to +/- 100 degrees.
