Anti Fouling System (ICAF)

Anti-fouling for box coolers
NRF’s box coolers are theoretically maintenance and fault free. Not for nothing are they used on ships operating worldwide. As for every cooling system exposed to seawater, there is always the risk of fouling. Although a safety margin is always implemented in the design of NRF cooling systems, their operation may be detrimentally affected by fouling and growth of animal organisms like barnacles, mussels etc. As answer to this, NRF supplies the repeatedly tested Impressed Current Anti Fouling System (ICAF), which prevents this biological fouling.

Integration into the vessel

NRF has implemented the ICAF system for many years in box cooler installations. A great advantage of this system is that it is extremely effective on the one hand, and is environmentally friendly on the other. It combats the growth of animal organisms in a well-thought-out way and can be connected to the vessel’s control systems, so that the operation and lifetime of the anodes may easily be checked.
