Box coolers
The box cooler, invented by NRF in 1959, is an effective, environmentally-friendly device, which requires little maintenance. It cools better than other makes under all conditions and gives years of problem-free performance.
DIFFERENT MODELS:
Top-down installation
The “Top-Down” installation of the box cooler is the most common application. For many years this
was the only version available and is still the most applied version.
Build Under (also known as “Bottom Pull”)
Nowadays, there are a lot of different box cooler models. Box coolers are getting bigger in size and are
applied in an expanding range of ship types. Therefore there is the need of box coolers which are
assembled from outside of the hull.
Combi build under-top down installation
Bi-installed box cooler. This design is in fact a combination of our standard Top Down and Build Under models.
The extra “connection frame” makes it possible to install / remove the NRF box cooler in 2 ways.
This design we use in order to remove the box cooler easily by lowering it out of the vessel, for easy cleaning or quick inspection of the seachest. Alternatively, the cooler can be removed by means of lifting the coil out of the frame. Now we have two possibilities to remove the box cooler out of the seachest. That gives the owner the freedom to decide how he can clear the seachest. The application is used in order to reduce the docking time and save on labour and possible damages of the cooler.
Integrated ICAF
Due to the increasing pressure to reduce costs and to prevent possible installation errors, NRF has
developed a range of box coolers in which the anti-fouling (ICAF) is integrated on the cooler, resulting in a
rapid and efficient assembly. To keep the cooler dimensions within the standard range, NRF has chosen to
retain the cable from the anode through the beam and the water box.

Box coolers
REVOLUTIONARY MARINE BREAKTHROUGH: NRF introduces their new box cooler coating, named RED TULIP. Due to a perfectly aligned box cooler and ICAF (impressed current anti-fouling) system, blistering of the box cooler coating is history. This success has been achieved by an intensive 2-years research period.
Benefits of a Box cooler
- Supplied with new RED TULIP COATING
- High cooling capacity
- Easy to install
- Easy to maintain
- Problem-free performance
