The 30th edition of SMM was everything we hoped for. After a long period of pandemic restrictions, it offered 2,000 exhibitors from all technology areas in the maritime industry, as well as more than 30,000 visitors from over 100 nations, the opportunity to finally meet in person again in Hamburg. To discuss complex challenges. To present groundbreaking innovations. And last but not least, to network, seek cooperation and forge alliances.
With about 80 speakers at the conferences, more than 160 speakers on the Transition Stages, and 16 start-ups pitching for the new SMM Maritime Start-up Award, the supporting program has never been so popular. Once again, we’ve seen that it takes joint efforts to drive the maritime transition – and as organizers, we’re grateful to know that SMM continues to be your platform of choice to connect with the industry’s game changers.

Not all aftermarket parts are the same. Two components that look identical in the box can perform very differently on the road. One might last for years without issues. The other might fail within months, creating a comeback for the workshop and frustration for the customer.
The difference usually comes down to how the product was designed, tested and manufactured. Price and branding play a role in perception, but they are not reliable indicators of actual quality. This article explains the main factors that truly determine aftermarket part quality, and how professionals can use that knowledge to make better sourcing decisions.
Reliability is not always visible from the outside. A car part may look perfectly fine in the box, with clean packaging and a professional finish, but still fail within months of installation. Equally, a component with less flashy presentation might deliver years of trouble-free performance.
True reliability usually comes from what happened before the part reached the shelf: the engineering behind it, the materials chosen, the testing it went through and the consistency of the manufacturing process. But as a workshop manager, buyer or mechanic, you do not always have access to those details. So how can you tell whether a part is likely to be reliable before you install it?

We would like to inform you of a strategic adjustment to our Copper Brass cores manufacturing operations. As part of our ongoing strategy to strengthen and optimize our operations, we are planning to move the Copper Brass core production from our Mill facility in the Netherlands to our Spanish factory in Granada during Quarter 4 2025.
